About the event
So yeah...Capitalism. Things don't seem to be going well right now. Economic incentives and profit-oriented decision making are evidently contributing to the destruction of our planet and the exploitation of people all across the globe, rather than the continued advancement of the human condition. Modern slavery, environmental destruction, power hoarding, and outright cruelty pervade much of our "marketplace". To be fair, capitalism can certainly be said to have some advantages, especially in areas such as innovation, incentives, and the theorectical democratization of the economy. However, how late-stage capitalism presently intersects with government, systems of oppression, and people, has left us with an unsettling new global paradigm that threatens the lives and well-being of billions of people. If we are to truly build anti-oppressive societies, the question of what economic model will truly serve the interests of the many rather than just the whims of the few, will need to be answered. Join this training to explore some of the problems with Capitalism in the mdoern day, and some potential ways we might pave a new future.
